I had the great luck of aquiring a copy of "Sorrento and InlaindWork" by Arthur Hope, published in 1876. This is a wonderful slim volume of information on woodworking, including scroll saw work. The scroll saw patterns are perfectly adaptable to scherenschnitte! Included among the patterns is a wonderful alphabet made up of human figures. Here I offer my recreations of these wonderful patterns.
These cuttings are each mounted on a 5"x7" piece of water color paper. The block of painted color measures 4"x6" and is painted with water colors. The white details are added with calligraphy inks and a dip pen.
Because of the vagaries of scanners and monitors, scan colors may not match exactly to the original piece. In all cases, I have done my best to make sure the colors are as true as possible.
