my tip of my index finger is semi numb. I did way to much scherenschnitte work today. need to rest. but this is a good thing.
among the other Ta-Da items… I finially got the time to add a link from each of my www.albanlea.com pages to www.JenMinnis.com … may not seem like a big thing to you, lol, but to me it was a looming task on my to do list. one of those that keeps getting transfered to the next task period and really niggling at the back of your mind when you choose other tasks over it.
also, working on getting fat book pages assembled to mail ASAP. my photocopies yellowed a bit which made the whole thing much more monotone (green) than it was originally… but it’s much better than some of the photocopy color fiascoes I’ve had before. and my Staples now lets me play on a color machine all by my (more qualified than the staff) self!!
I’m up and playing with minor website update stuff…. just basic housecleaning.
this is my artistamp design for the 6th AML (artistamp mailing list) anniversary:
a larger version to see more detail …
this is a new pattern I designed it’s mounted onto a standard 8×10(4.5×6.5) mat so it can easily be added to any picture. I’m going to be making up a bunch of these for sale… trying to get more art produced to take to galleries and for an upcoming event!
so, I’ve been practicing my soldering and feeling much better about it lately. here’s a peak at some of what I’ve been doing…
I am pretty sure I’ve posted an image of this collage before… but I scanned it better now. this is one of a series of collaged pendants/ornaments I’m making to sell. these will be a limited edition of 100 made from high resolution prints of the original collage. the backing paper is the actual paper, and not a reproduction… so each backing is a little bit different. as soon as I can, I’ll get them up on my site at $12 each… but drop me a note if you are interested in one before that…
this is another limited edition pendant/ornament design. the packing paper of these is my own paste paper and each one is even more unique. the colors will match the bit of paste paper in the collage on the front though. the wings used in this collage came from Queen of Tarts ‘s website and are really yummy to work with!! they are printed on vellum for that translucent but not transparent look that works so wonderfully for wings. btw, the spot on her bum is just a spot that got on the glass. I need to rescan this without the spot, lol.
when I cut down my slides to make the monogram pendants (below) I end up with these little slices of glass… so I decided to experiment with making little word charms from them. I like the way this first one came out. I’m going to make a bunch more (with words on both side) and link them together with beads to make a chain.
this one *was* going to be a gift for a friend… but it was a bit of an “oh wow” learning experience… when I started, the pink layer on the left hand side was full to the edges. but the pink layer is painted tyvek and I didn’t think about what the heat of the soldering iron would do to it… it melted it right through the glass and tape. because I used lumiere halo gold to paint it, the melted edges took on that goldish tone. I really like the effect… but this one doesn’t work for me because of the white left behind it. if I had been expecting it, I would have planned a better background! (and it sure is a good thing I wear my mask when soldering!)
here is another monogram pendant. this one WILL be a gift for a friend.
And, I promised pics of my latest knitting finished projects…
here’s the Chicknit’s Bucket hat. I love this yarn. it’s a cotton blend that has a little bit of elastic in it. it is so soft without being in the slightest fuzzy.
i had enough left over and I actually had the right needles, so I decided to make an umbilical cord hat from SnB. I was so in love with this cute little hat, I was having a hard time deciding if it would be for my antique doll (Dorthey) that was my doll growing up… (she’s a toddler. she will actually walk when you hold her hands to help her stand and rock her to make her feet kick forward.)… or for our new (2 month old) baby nephew, Damon. p asked me if the decision would be easier if he bought me some more yarn, lol. when we went to the training session for Quickbooks, Linda (mrs. pastor) saw me working on it and said she might have me make one for her new granddaughter.
and I’ve also knit up a couple Kitty Won Tons for Esme… but I’ll wait till I can get some good picks of won ton destruction to post those, hehe.
I went to my first LYS ever. sad, I know… but for some reason, I just never had time/occasion to get into a LYS. I got some yarn for the project I’d had waiting… I knit up the Chicknit’s Bucket Hat. it went really smoothly I love the cotton blend yarn I got to make it. it has 1% elastic in it and I like the way it moves. the cotton blend is so soft and not a bit scratchy like even the softest wool is. when I was done, I grabbed my copy of SnB to see if there were any projects in there that interested me for a next project (I hadn’t looked at it in a while) and saw that the umbilical cord hat used the same weight yarn and needles as the bucket hat. well, I had 3/4 of a ball left from my bucket hat and guessed that was just about the right amount to make the ucord hat. so I knit that up for Damon (P’s new nephew). pictures will be coming soon.
I sent off my Sarah, Queen of Spades, card to the Christian Paper Arts collaborative playing card deck. I ordered 40 decks to use as Christmas gifts, etc. I have very good hopes for this project. there are some really talented folks involved. as with any collaborative project of this type, there are also some not as skilled participants… but all the cards are heartfelt and scripture based, so it will be great. post with a scan will be coming soon.
