i’ve decided i’m having too much fun making pattern row counters. i need to share the joy….
and i also need your advice on pattern sugestions for my rose handspun.
so, tell me what you think my latest handspun should be, and i’ll put your name into a hat. each pattern suggestion gets a draw (not just each person). on sun. june 24th, i’ll pull a name and the winner will get a set of pattern row counters (one each of 2, 3, & 4 row counters). if i end up using a pattern sugestion, the the person who suggested it (first, in case of multiple suggestions) will also get a set.
(i’ll post the prize sets soon…)

Ok I think you could do a lovely cowl in the rose handspun. I’ve been so loving my green handspun one!
That is lovely handspun. I envision that as a beautiful lace scarf, like Branching Out on Knitty.
I think a Beech Wood from Ilga Leja would be perfect for your yarn! It calls for sport or DK weight yarn so I think it would definitely work for your beautiful handspun. Here is the pattern link…

I would go for a lace scarf or wrap if you had enough to do it. There are some beautiful wraps at “knitspot”
I don’t know about yardage but this is intriguing:

I think this is more suited to the yardage and really nice:

Finally, I think this Moebius cowl would be a great fit (I think this is my top pick actually):

I think it would look lovely knit up into Knitpick’s (free download) candle flame scarf. Even though the pattern calls for fingering weight, I bet you could use bigger needles and it would look lovely.
Some kind of lace patterned wrap would be perfect. I would go more towards a stole vs shawl. The color would be great for Spring/Summer wear (wool wears well in the summer too) and it would also look good if you go out in the winter to like parties…
I will find a pattern…
Swamp Witch on anticraft.com (archives) could easily be made to work with DK

If you don’t want to go for wearables (I think it is a shame for the color and weight) you could also to a cabled bag and felt it, I have seen a few of these patterns out on the net. The color would show the cables very well….
Mittens, or topless mittens/fingerless gloves. Yes. Definitely.
The word “contest” lured me from the Blue Moon Rockin’ Sock Club site. Your latest handspun is supremely gorgeous. So gorgeous, in fact, that I wonder whether a lace approach will do it justice. I’m not generally a big fan of swatching (yes, I know, gauge is very important — been there, wept, frogged, and am still not a big fan of swatching) but with my best yarn-in-search-of-a-pattern I believe earnestly in swatching to see what the yarn does. I’d recommend a plain ol’ stockinette stitch swatch. Then swatch the lace pattern of your choice. If you like the stockinette, you could go with something like

but since you’re an artist, you might go after something really unconventional, like knitting a book cover using a Barbara Walker pattern — I’m entranced by the yellow book (Charted Knitting Designs) at the moment. For that matter, one of the Seven-Rib Shell pattern on p.30 would make a lovely scarf.

With the Nantucket Hydrangea yarn, I think you should knit a Clapotis scarf from Knitty! your yarn is beautiful and it reminds me of the beautiful hydrangea bushes blooming around nantucket… from the dock when you arrive to the cottages in Sconset!
good luck and i love your row counters! i need them for my socks!!!!
Ohhh, so many wonderful suggestions so far! i keep calling Paul over to look at another pattern idea i’ve fallen in love with! but there is still lots of time left, so i’ll wait for every bit of inspiration before making a choice (even though that’s getting harder and harder!)
several of the patterns suggested have had beads on them. now i’m starting to have visions of clear crystal beads on this catching the light like drops of dew! i may have to add some bead work to whatever this becomes… even if the original pattern doesn’t call for it.
a couple of people suggested the candle flame scarf. it is lovely and i’m tempted… but my sister-in-law is currently knitting one already. i don’t think i want to compete with her’s just yet. i want to let her have some time to show her’s off before i would make one.
Sooz, ohhh, while looking at your green cowl, i decided what to do with some of my other handspun! i have a skein of merino/silk blend in a colorway called dragonfly that i’ve been saving for something special… it’s now going to become a cowl for a Christmas gift for my stepmother to wear on trips up to Truckee.
Abigail, the Moebius cowl is definitely on the short list… oh, pretty!
Northfield Kathryn, swatching it up to see how lace shows is a very good point. i think that will be what i do to keep myself happy while waiting on the contest suggestions. and now you’ve thrown the idea of something unconventional into the mix… hmmm…
Marcy, i’ve already got one in use on my current sock project. they work really well for socks. and yes, it is very much like hydrangeas! i love hydrangeas. the blue/purple variety was one of our main wedding flowers.
The beautiful pink colorway inspires me to think of all those valiant ladies and families fighting breast cancer…I have a dear friend who is my inspiration — won’t give up the fight and always tells me to “think pink!” I’d knit your handspun either into chemo hats with some real style, or a lacy bed coat to ward off hospital chills and brighten up the room!
I like the idea of a small cowl. Wear it next to your face so everyone can admire it…and you
