This is a simple non-traditional form of paste paper. In a traditional form of paste paper, the paste is made from wheat paste. In this method, Golden’s glazing liquid is substituted.
Make sure you are working on a surface that can get very wet and won’t be ruined by acrylic paints. I suggest covering your work surface with plastic.
Mix your glazing liquid with your acrylic paints in approximately a 1:1 to 1:2 ratio, whatever looks good translucency wise to you.
Dampen your work surface with a wet sponge. Place your copy paper down and dampen it with the wet sponge. Flip your paper and dampen it again, sealing it down to the surface with the moisture… make sure not to over soak your paper or the combing will lose definition.
Paint your page with your mixed paints and the foam brushes. Make sure to paint past the edges of the paper so that the pattern can extend to the page edge.
Starting off the side of the page, drag the combing tool through the wet paint forming patterns.
Carefully lift the paste paper and move it to an opened out brown paper bag to dry on.
with your sponge, wipe up excess paint and then re wet the surface and begin again.
when you have finished with your batch of paste papers, you can mix the excess paint left on the inside surface of your cups, in your foam brushes, and in the bowl of water together to make a very pigmented waste water. this waste water is perfect for making Waste Water Papers!
